In the spirit of making sure you keep livin’, man (oh, and also that you return to movie theaters), the Texas theater chain’s put together a special run of 1993 cult classic Dazed and Confused—complete with a reunion of stars Matthew McConaughey and Parker Posey and director/native Houstonian Richard Linklater (Yeah, he’s spent most of his career in Austin, but he was born in Houston and graduated from Bellaire High School, so there.).
Hosted by Jack Black, the Zoom-taped reunion will give fans a dose of nostalgia as Linklater, Posey, and our possible future Texas governor will look back at the making of this coming-of-age classic.
This is the second event in Alamo Drafthouse’s “Support Local Cinemas” campaign, aimed at bringing moviegoers back to theaters—a cause that’s especially important to the Austin-based company, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection at the beginning of March. The first, a The Lord of the Rings cast reunion, continues this Thursday with a screening of The Return of the King followed by a Q&A with Peter Jackson, Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, and host Stephen Colbert.
Meanwhile, the Dazed and Confused screenings will kick off the week of April 20 (… get it?) but will arrive in Houston with two showings on April 22, followed by three more that weekend. In the meantime, fans can submit questions for the panel using the hashtag #Dazed on Twitter.
And if you’re still not ready to spend time around other people—we get it, you’re just trying to be honest about being a misanthrope—both the Lord of the Rings and Dazed and Confused reunions are available as part of Alamo Drafthouse’s “Your Own Private Alamo” package ($150) and will be shared online through Alamo On Demand later this year.
April 22–25. From $9.50. Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, 2707 Commercial Center Blvd, Ste K-100. 281-492-6900. More info and tickets at drafthouse.com.
