6 Sweat-Proof Products to Nab During Sephora’s Spring Sale

We’ve had the hottest week of the year so far, and with temps reaching close to the 90s, it’s mind-blowing to think that back in February, the city was covered in ice and snow. Now… summer is apparently near. Terrifying, we know.

With sizzling temperatures around the corner, now’s the time to revamp (or start) your summer beauty routine—maybe adopt new foundations with summer-weight formulas and replace the lush moisturizers with lightweight gels. Since Sephora kicks off its Spring Savings Event today, which allows Beauty Insiders (Sephora’s membership program) of all tiers (Rouge, VIB, and Insider) to stock up on makeup, skin, and hair care products. We know you’re buzzing in anticipation, but before we dive into our picks of holy grail-level sweat-proof products, let’s break down the annual event.

As mentioned, all tiers have access to the sale. However, it depends on which echelon beauty members fall under to know how much they can save. Rouge (spent at least $1,000 per year) and VIB status (spent at least $350 per year) get earlier access and deeper discounts than Insiders.

Rouge: 20-percent off from April 9–19

VIB: 15-percent off from April 13–19

Insiders: 10-percent off from April 15–19

Although, there are some exceptions to the sale (there always are), members can feed their beauty addictions with these deals both in person and online. Just simply use the code OMGSPRING to spring those discounts to life. And if you don’t have a membership, it’s free to join and you’ll start building reward points.

Base

Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protector SPF 50+ Sunscreen, $25–$49

Diminishing harmful UV rays should be on the top of your list this summer. This supple sunscreen’s WetForce formula strips heavy chemical agents and fragrances to produce a smooth and lightweight texture. Introducing this to my skincare routine has immensely helped in targeting my hyperpigmentation. When applying, its milky beige color blends into a clear lotion and doesn’t leave that displeasing white cast on the skin. I usually mix this in with my Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Moisturizer to help thin out the product, but applying this alone still does the job. This sunscreen comes in two sizes, so definitely test out the mini version to see if your skin approves.

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick, $49

Though we love a nice, full-coverage foundation, letting the skin breathe during this hot season is key. A stick foundation is usually my go-to, especially if it has a flattering pigment and natural looking finish. This cult classic foundation has those sweet qualities, plus it has a sweat- and humidity-resistant formula that helps control oil buildup. With one swipe, this complexion product is perfect to either apply all over the face, for medium coverage, or just to spot treat certain areas, to mimic a ‘your skin but better’ base. I usually pair this with a clean and antioxidant rich primer like Fresh’s Lotus Youth Preserve to keep it lightweight.

Lip

Marc Jacobs Beauty Re(cover) Hydrating Coconut Lip Oil, $20

Since we’re replacing dryness with hydration this season, we have to keep the same energy for our lips. This nurturing lip oil is perfect after a deep lip scrub to finalize your skin routine or as a nice topper for a natural makeup look. Unlike clear lip glosses, this doesn’t have a sticky finish and leaves a subtle and smooth shine.

Honorable sweat-proof mention:

If you’re in need for a thicker, yet still light and breathable clear sheen, Fenty Beauty’s Glass Bomb Luminizer in Glass Slipper is a perfect choice.

Concealer

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, $13–$30

This creamy product won Allure’s 2018 Best of Beauty Award (and my heart) for a reason. The popular concealer does a variety of things, but its sweat-proof formula is what we really love. It’s incredibly light when applied, blends smoothly for a hydrating appearance, and upholds its nice coverage against sweltering weather. To top it off, for the price, it’s pretty versatile. This product’s buildable coverage can serve as an under-eye concealer, contour, and spot corrector, and it comes in mini-sizes to easily throw in your purse for retouches.

Milk Makeup

Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek, $30

Our picks wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Milk Makeup. This brand’s reputation for producing clean and skin-like products has made it the perfect go-to for natural and light creative looks. For spring and summer, this small blush stick provides a fresh flush of color to the cheeks and lips. Whether directly applied from the stick, with your fingers or dabbed on a fluffy brush, this sweat-proof item can serve as a colorful glow from within.

For brows, the waterproof Gel Brow Pencil and KUSH Volumizing Mascara are great additions for a light look.

Setting Sprays

Estée Lauder Set + Refresh Perfecting Makeup Mist, $38

As a final step, you’ve got to lock in all your hard work with an oil-free setting mist. Setting sprays come in a variety of finishes but choosing one that keeps makeup from melting against Houston’s blistering weather is vital. This refreshing spray is formulated to support the skin’s natural radiance and feels pretty hydrating on the skin. This mist pops up several times in my beauty routine: I spritz some over my foundation for a smoother glide, apply a little more after I set certain areas with powder, spray a little over my brush when I’m highlighting and to retouch throughout the day.
