Is your car registration and/or inspection past due? Due to the pandemic and subsequent stay-at-home restrictions that were in place across Texas in 2020, Governor Abbott had announced a temporary waiver of certain vehicle title and registration requirements.
On April 14, 2021 at 11:59 PM, this waiver will end. Law enforcement officials could write citations for expired registration stickers after this time.
Vehicle registration can be renewed in the following 3 ways:
- Online – Visit www.TxDMV.gov or www.Texas.gov. Save $1 if you renew online. Online renewal is available up to nine months past your registration expiration date
- In person – Visit the office of your county tax assessor-collector. In many counties, in-person renewal is also available at other locations, such as certain grocery stores. Contact your county tax office to check hours and locations.
- By mail – Return the bottom portion of your registration renewal form, payment and other required information to your county tax assessor-collector. Remember to allow for time for mail delivery and processing.
Before renewing registration, all Texan drivers will need to complete a vehicle inspection, unless their vehicle is exempt.
