Dallas-based Zalat Pizza is making its Houston debut this summer with an opening at 510 Gray St. in Midtown.

It marks a return home for Zalat founder and CEO Khanh Nguyen, who attended Klein Forest High School and the University of Houston.

“When we started discussing expansion outside of DFW, Houston was the most obvious choice for us,” said Nguyen in a press release. “We think many Houstonians love and appreciate great food that is served without pretense, and that’s exactly who we are.”

The pizzeria’s menu features a few traditional- Neapolitan-style pies, but its calling card is an array of wild styles like elote (a proprietary ranch and sriracha sauce called Sirancha, with corn, lemon pepper, parmesan, cilantro garnish) and—get ready for this—pho shizzle (chicken, red bell peppers, caramelized onions, hoisin and sriracha swirl, basil and cilantro garnish).

Houston rapper Slim Thug has partnered with chicken-in-a-cone concept Chick’nCone on an item called the Still Tippin’ Cone, available this Thursday to Sunday and May 6–9. Here, a waffle cone is filled with fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and ranch sauce. For every cone sold, Chick’nCone will donate $1 to the Boss Life Foundation, Slim Thug’s non profit organization that offers education programs for young men. To help promote the effort, Slim Thug will stop by Chick’nCone at 4 p.m. Thursday and May 6.
