Houston is the most diverse city in America. We’ve known this for a while, of course, but now we have a new study to wave in Dallas’s face (which came in fourth, by the way). 

According to a report from WalletHub, which was released Monday, Houston is the most diverse city in the U.S., narrowly beating out the rest of the top five cities, Jersey City, New Jersey, New York City, Dallas, and Los Angeles by a few tenths of a point. 

To complete this study, WalletHub looked at 501 of the most populated cities in the country, comparing them across five diversity categories: socioeconomic, cultural, economic, household, and religious. Each city was then graded on a 100-point scale and given a ranking.

Houston (the city proper—the ’burbs weren’t included) received an overall score of 71.87. We ranked 31st in cultural diversity, 53rd in religious diversity, 96th in socioeconomic diversity, 125st in economic diversity, and 136th in household diversity. 

Dallas did have us beat in socioeconomic and religious diversity (ranking 68th and 43th, respectively), but remember, we beat them overall, which, in the end, is what counts. 

As for the rest of Texas? WalletHub only allowed a maximum of 10 cities per state. Arlington (#8) and Fort Worth (#25) had decent showings, as did Austin (#38), Plano (#55), San Antonio (#66), and Corpus Christi (#79). At 242nd, El Paso was staunchly in the middle of the pack, and Laredo (#462) near the end.
