SPA Brings Live Shows Back with an A-List Lineup

Just when it feels like we’d forgotten the thrill of live performances forever, the Society of Performing Arts has put a pep back in our step with the announcement of its 2021–2022 season. And it’s sure to fulfill everyone’s every artful needs with a celebrity-packed lineup to boot.

The season will kick off on October 1 with a concert from Venezuelan singer and Latin Grammy winner Nella at Miller Outdoor Theatre. Other highlights from the stacked 17-show season include the previously announced appearance by Food Network star Alton Brown in November, as well as visits from America’s favorite astrophysicist, Neil deGrasse Tyson, actor/musician Jeff Goldblum and his Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, and humorist David Sedaris.

Also worth noting: SPA has rescheduled some 2019–2020 performances that were canceled because of … you know, us getting hit by the plague, including the legendary Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. And the arts organization is hosting four nights of special performances from its first round of Houston Artist Commissioning Project winners. Launched mid-pandemic, the new initiative aims to support local creatives through the commissioning of new works.

Like we said, something for everyone.
