Where to Go for Mother’s Day: Brunch, Dinner, Takeout, and More


In case you’ve yet to make Mother’s Day plans (we’re less than two weeks away!), a number of Houston restaurants are serving special brunches, lunches, and dinners. Some are preparing food for pickup. All are waiting for you … and Mom … and hopefully a very generous tip.

Here’s what’s happening across the H-Town dining scene (as always, this list is not definitive):

Mother’s Day Brunch

Backstreet Cafe: Three-course menu offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 9. Entrées include soft-shell crab Benedict, hangar steak bistro Benedict, and pan-roasted half chicken. Live music and full bar. $52 per adult, $15 for ages 10 and younger. To-go available, reservations recommended.

Bludorn: Three-course prix fixe brunch offered, including dishes like smoked salmon on rosti potato, blue crab cakes, and eggs Benedict. $75 per person, $25 for ages 9 and younger. Reserve online or call 713-999-0146.

Brasserie du Parc: Three-course menu offered from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. May 9. Entrées include eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, mushroom risotto, and flat-iron steak with egg. Full bar, patio seating. $46 per adult. To-go available, reservations recommended.

Brennan’s of Houston: Special brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 9. Entrées include shrimp and grits and crawfish boudin-stuffed quail. $56 per person. Reserve by calling 713-522-9711.

Caracol: Three-course menu offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 9. Entrées include chilaquiles, cornbread with poached eggs, and chicken enchiladas. Full bar. $52 per adult, $15 for ages 10 and younger. To-go available, reservations recommended. 

Ember & Greens: À la carte menu includes Nutella and rosewater French toast, breakfast tacos, and chicken and waffles. Open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 9 with dinner served until 8 p.m. To-go offered, reservations encouraged.

Etoile Cuisine et Bar: Three-course menu offered from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. May 9. Entrées include eggs Benedict, roasted leg of lamb, and braised short rib. Full bar. $62 per adult. To-go available, reservations recommended. 

Guard and Grace: Brunch menu available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 9 with eggs Benedict, smoked wagyu brisket hash, Texas French toast, and more.


Hugo’s: Three-course menu offered May 9. Entrées include grilled ribeye, grilled cauliflower steak, chilaquiles, and braised pork shank. Full bar. $52 per adult, $15 for ages 10 and younger. To-go available, reservations recommended. 

Hungry’s: Both locations will offer moms a complimentary mimosa (dine-in only). Weekend brunch and mimosa kits also available for takeout ($15–$30).

Kenny & Ziggy’s New York Delicatessen: Offering four meals to-go for up to six people each. Meals include a salad sampler with whitefish salad, baked kippered salmon salad, and egg salad; a smoked fish brunch with Nova salmon; a New York brunch with Nova, whitefish, sable or sturgeon, and cream cheese; and a delicatessen lunch with franks in a blanket, pastrami, corned beef, turkey, salami, and more. Prices vary from $85 to $145. Order by May 5.

KP’s Kitchen Food & Wine: Offering complimentary champagne for all moms. Plus, special Gulf crab cake offered on May 9. 

Liberty Kitchen: Both locations offering full brunch, plus special lavender pancakes with honey crème anglaise and lemon brûlée wheels. Open 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. May 9.

Mastrantos: Four-course prix fixe brunch offered with entrées that include eggs Benedict arepa, garden risotto, and spinach and squash quiche. $49 per adult, $25 per child (with their own three-course menu). Seatings at 10 a.m., noon, 2:30 p.m., and 5 p.m. Reserve your table here.

Max’s Wine Dive: Special dishes featured at Washington (pan-seared wild flounder) and Fairview (salted caramel sticky buns, lobster omelet) locations. 

McCormick & Schmick’s: Three-course prix fixe menu offered on May 8 and 9. Entrées include Chilean sea bass Oscar and center-cut filet mignon. $39 per person. Family-to-go meals also available at $125 (feeds four).

Musaafer: Chef-curated meals on offer start at $100 for five courses, going to $280 for eight courses. Wine pairings also available. Dishes include chaat with cured salmon, murg lababdar with chargrilled chicken, and Panjeeri bonbons. Seatings at noon, 6 p.m., and 9 p.m. May 9. Reservations required.

One Fifth Southern Comfort: Brunch includes specials like Cornflake-crusted French toast; a not-so eggs Benedict with potato rosti, poached eggs, and crab roe; and honey butter chicken biscuit. Reserve here.

Ostia: Brunch served from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 9. Dishes include frittata, a pizza special, and bruschetta with soft-scrambled eggs. 

Ouisie’s Table: À la carte menu on May 9, including eggs Benedict, short rib omelet, and grilled beef tenderloin, with cocktails at $8 or less. Champagne, as well.

Phat Eatery: Takeaway feast of five courses available. Options include curry-braised oxtail, beef rendang, or sizzling beef; and Haiananese chicken, mango chicken, or basil chicken, among other dishes. Mix and match. $68. Pre-order here.

Rainbow Lodge: Three-course menu offered from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 9. Entrées include braised buffalo short rib Benedict, steak and eggs, and brioche French toast. Full bar. $55 per person. Reservations recommended. 

Studewood Cantine: Launching brunch on Saturdays and offering a special Mother’s Day brunch on May 9. Look for fajita and eggs, chilaquiles, fried egg torta, blue corn crab cakes, and churros waffle. Cocktails include bloody Maria and bottomless mimosas. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 8 and 9, and subsequent Saturdays. Call 713-864-1100 for reservations. 

Sylvia’s Enchilada Kitchen: Mother’s Parrillada available for pick-up. It includes beef fajitas, mesquite-grilled quail, four enchiladas, guacamole, rice, beans, tortillas, chips, salsa, and tres leches cake. $79.95. Also available is a Texas Mesquite BBQ Picnic Pack with whole chicken, baby back ribs, potato salad, rice, charro beans, and more. $34 for small, $65 for large.


Tony’s: A three-course brunch is scheduled for May 9, with entrées including Mediterranean branzino, herb-roasted airline chicken, and truffled filet of beef. $75 per person, $25 for ages 12 and younger. Traveler’s Table: Two-course prix fixe brunch that includes a cocktail for $45 per person from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 9. Dishes include custard lava French toast and morning churros. Mimosa specials, as well. Go here for reservations.

Treebeards: Complimentary mimosas for moms on May 9, plus special of shrimp and grits. Whole cakes also for sale at $40–$75. 

The Union Kitchen: À la carte brunch menu at all six locations. Options include shrimp and roasted corn bisque, herb-crusted lamb lollipops, and more. Standard brunch menu also served, reservations recommended.

Woodshed Smokehouse: Spend brunch May 9 at Levy Park with a “Moms & Mimosas” special ($15 mimosa pitchers). Also, $6 hibiscus champagne cocktails.

Wunsche Brothers: The Old Town Spring restaurant is offering complimentary mimosas for moms all day May 9. Full menu, open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Xochi: Three-course menu offered May 9. Entrées include chilaquiles, pescado, and bacon-wrapped quail. Live music and full bar. $52 per adult, $15 for ages 10 and younger. To-go available, reservations recommended. 

Mother’s Day Dinner

Gatsby’s Prime Steakhouse: The new steakhouse is offering a three-course meal that includes filet mignon Oscar. $75 per person. 5–9 p.m. May 9. Reserve here.

Sticky’s Chicken: Family trays are available for $65 each. One option includes 25 wings, a choice of fries, and a pint of macaroni and cheese.
