As music returns to venues across the city, the Houston Downtown Management District is hoping to add to the beat with a new series of its own. Road to Revival Music Fest, which kicks off this Saturday, will feature a free concert in historic Market Square Park every month from now through August.
The shows, which Bayou City music label Splice Records and Saint Arnold Brewing Company will co-host, will serve as a kind-of lead-up to the New Braunfels-based River Revival Music Fest in September. And since it’s all about hyping you up for the festival this fall, Road to Revival will showcase the variety of genres represented at the annual music extravaganza.
“For years we’ve been producing, staffing, and showcasing Houstonians at our independent camping festival in New Braunfels at summer’s end,” Splice founder Shaun Brennan said in a statement. “With the Road to River Revival, I get to share the magic we create on the river with my hometown.”
Headliners of Road to Revival include the bilingual New Orleans indie-poppers Sweet Crude; singer/songwriter John Evans, formerly of John Evans Band; Austin duo Greyhounds; and Latin-psychedelic cumbia band Money Chicha, alongside other regional acts.
And since safety is part of the fun these days, physical distancing and hand sanitizing will be encouraged during the events. Guests must also wear masks while in the park.
