Buzzy Pan-Latin Steakhouse to Bring Heat to Four Seasons

Mexican-born, Denver-based chef Richard Sandoval must see some room in Houston for upscale pan-Latin cuisine because his steakhouse Toro Toro is coming to Downtown’s Four Seasons Hotel this fall, according to an announcement made late last week.

Toro Toro, from the chef who in 1997 opened upscale Mexican restaurant Maya in New York City and has since opened whiskey bar Bayou & Bottle at the Four Seasons, is all about seafood and steaks. For one, its name suggests the Japanese word for tuna and the Spanish word for bull.

The restaurant focuses on small plates, family style ceviches and tiraditos, and the Brazilian churrasco experience with a wood-burning grill and table-side carving.

“This is an exciting opportunity to expand upon the success of our existing partnership with Richard Sandoval Hospitality to bring a new elevated and interactive dining experience to Houston,” said Four Seasons Hotel Houston General Manager Tom Segesta. “Richard’s global reputation coupled with the continued success of his culinary partnerships with many of our sister Four Seasons properties will be the perfect addition to our city’s vibrant dining scene.”

Meyer Davis is redesigning the hotel’s third-floor restaurant and dining spaces for Toro Toro, which will take up 2,675 square feet. The hotel is boasting a design that includes art from Houston-born female artists, brass accents, a steel-clad fireplace, and both a show-stopping central bar and open kitchen.

Private spaces, including an eight-seat banquette in a high-profile part of the restaurant and an eight-seat, 400-square-foot speakeasy, help complete what should be a Downtown draw.

This will be the sixth Toro Toro to open across the world; other locations are in Fort Worth; Miami; Washington, D.C.; Dubai, UAE; and Doha, Qatar.
