Congratulations to Alfreda’s Soul Food, which was named one of 25 recipients of the Backing Historic Small Restaurants grand program from American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The 57-year-old soul food restaurant on Almeda Road in the Museum District won $40,000 in funding, along with technical assistance to support the use of the funds.

“Alfreda’s Soul Food has been a staple in the Houston community for decades, and we’re excited to be a recipient of the Backing Historic Small Restaurants grant by American Express. It is our goal to not only provide delicious food for local residents, but to offer a place of refuge where people can gather and get a taste of home,” said co-owner Troy Williams, in a press release.

While Saigon House is no more, you can still get Nguyen’s crawfish on Monday nights at Xin Chao.
